LUBBOCK, Texas — HE-B's Hunger Relief Team will be hosting a mobile kitchen event Monday afternoon at the South Plains Food Bank, located at 5605 MLK Jr Blvd.
The event will run from 11am to 2pm and is free and open to all families with school-age children. No registration is required.
According to a press release, HEB will provide food to more than 1,500 families, including hot meals prepared in the HEB Mobile Kitchen, bags of food and summer activities for children.
“When school is out, we see a spike in child hunger because children are missing the school breakfasts, lunches, after-school snacks and meals that they would receive during a normal school year,” said Dina Jeffries, executive director of the South Plains Food Bank.
“For many children, summer vacation is a time when they worry about when their next meal will be. South Plains Food Bank is working hard to meet the needs of our community this summer, but we can't do it alone. We're pleased to partner with HEB to help children and families fill their cupboards and refrigerators with healthy foods this summer.”
The HEB Summer of Sharing Tour runs through July, with stops in Conroe and San Antonio and involving more than 4,00 families and children.
