Casa de Luz, a longtime local vegan kitchen, has opened a new location in East Austin.
Casa de Luz East is the restaurant's latest collaboration with State Street Properties' Casa Este complex. The location will officially begin serving plated lunch and dinner fare daily starting June 28, with breakfast planned for later this summer, followed by seasonally updated menus throughout the year. Grab-and-go items and pre-made meals will also be available.
Casa de Luz, a nonprofit communal kitchen and community center, has been in Austin for more than 40 years, maintaining a location on Toomey Road just south of Lady Bird Lake and Butler Shores. The new space on the east side aims to further build on its well-established atmosphere and core service of serving one meal a day for a fixed price.
“Like Toomey's original Village, Casa Este offers a thoughtful and unique aesthetic while staying true to Austin's original roots. East Austin will finally be able to experience the joy of Casa de Luz – a truly peaceful and inviting space to share a meal and truly get to know one another,” Casa de Luz founder Eduardo Longoria said in a statement.
Casa de Luz East offers volunteer opportunities in the kitchen and also partners with local urban farms and nutrition programs.
