GREELEY, Colo. — Nearly a month after a powerful May storm caused extensive damage to a Greeley church kitchen, repairs are still ongoing.
A few weeks ago, Denver7 profiled how Greeley Kitchen, which operates out of Crossroads Church, is dedicated to feeding local residents but also needs help itself.
A storm in late May dumped heavy rain on the kitchen, causing widespread flooding and destroying much of the food stock.
Despite the challenges, kitchen staff showed incredible resilience. They continued to feed the hungry on Wednesday and Friday evenings, temporarily housing 50-80 people outdoors while they worked hard on the cleanup effort.
After the Denver 7 show aired in June, generous viewers donated $1,000 to help the church's struggling kitchen.
“As you can see, we've made great progress,” said Alice Nava, vice president of Greeley Kitchens. “The refrigerator will likely need replacing, but we're just taking the final two steps before we can get people back in the kitchen and start cooking.”
Nava said the donations will help speed up the goal.
“It's been great to see that the community that we serve understands what we're going through. Thank you Channel 7 for coming and helping us out and doing this. We couldn't have done this without you guys,” Nava said.
