Miami – A culinary gem is making waves in the heart of Little River: OFF SITE Nano Brewery + Kitchen, founded by friends Steve Santana and Adam Darnell, is bringing a unique blend of craft beers and premium American classics to the area.
“We share the responsibilities: I do the cooking and he does all the beer and the bar, so he's involved with the brewery system – the brewing and the beer. That's all Adam's job, and I've taken over the cooking part,” explains Steve Santana, partner at OFF SITE.
The restaurant has a clean, industrial feel with a long bar and an open kitchen, and some unexpected decor elements: “We have saws and axes. There are classical albums in the corner over there. This is my partner Adam's grandfather's pork chopper and bone saw; he comes from a family of butchers,” Santana says.
As part of Little River’s growing food scene, Santana said, “We’re excited to be part of it.
“I think Wynwood has shut out a lot of the small local places, including the bar we started. I have a lot of friends who own restaurants around here. It has a 'Cheers' vibe to it,” Santana said.
CBS News' Lisa Petrillo and Santana sample OFF SITE's flagship beer, Super Good Lager.
“This is my favorite beer — it's light, a little crisp and refreshing,” Petrillo said.
“I call it a beer-flavored beer. Nothing special. Nothing outlandish, nothing, just cold and light,” Petrillo added.
The menu will feature Chicago-style hot dogs served with neon relish, onions, mustard, tomatoes, pickles, sport peppers and celery.
“I was a little worried because it has a full kitchen sink, but I love it. It's like you say, a garden,” Petrillo said.
Their “Super Good Chicken Sandwich” truly lives up to its name.
“It's super crunchy, but it's got a nice juicy piece of bread in the middle, and the coleslaw on top is amazing,” Petrillo said.
OFF SITE's McRib is a generous portion: “I'd say it's about a half-pound,” Santana estimates.
Smoked short rib, sticky barbecue sauce, pickles and onions on a hoagie roll.
“If you want a McRib, don't go anywhere else. This place is the real deal. It's phenomenal,” Petrillo said.
OFF SITE's Nano Brewery and Kitchen is open for lunch and dinner six days a week, Tuesday through Sunday.
