For Dave Dupree, one of the most gratifying things is when couples come into Modern Kitchen & Bath and say, “My parents bought their kitchen here and we're going to do that too,” a compliment he hears frequently that not only honors the company's integrity and craftsmanship, but also its reputation in the community.
Since 1950, Modern Kitchen & Bath has been helping St. Louis families renovate two of the most important rooms in their homes. Co-owned by Dave and his brother Mike, the company has a reputation for excellent service and fair prices that have led to their success and, as a result, overwhelming customer support.
“We are a fourth-generation family-owned business and one of the oldest kitchen and bath companies in the United States. Before there were home improvement stores, Modern Kitchen & Bath was selling kitchen cabinets to customers whose children and grandchildren are still using us today,” Dave said.
One of the reasons customers have remained loyal for generations and referrals are plentiful is because Modern Kitchen & Bath offers everything a homeowner needs for a seamless remodel. From design to the latest quality products and expert installation.
“Our product selection is incredible,” says Dave. “Manufacturers are continually adding more and more options, which can be a good thing or a bad thing. We often hear people say, 'There's too much choice!'”
That's where the company's team of skilled designers come in. They're happy to assist homeowners with complimentary planning and design services.
“We're not a high pressure business,” said Dave, “We give customers honest quotes and help them with their selections all the way down to the handle if necessary. We want to help our customers in any way we can.”
One of the ways Modern Kitchen & Bath helps its customers is by creating bathrooms that are as beautiful as they are functional, allowing them to safely age in place. Converting tubs to showers, installing shower seats, and adding handheld showers and grab bars are some of the company's most frequently requested services. Another is installing skirted toilets, which are very popular but can be difficult for DIYers.
Dave pointed out that when it comes to kitchens and bathrooms, it's beneficial to seek professional help with design, installation and choosing products that will stand the test of time while providing modern conveniences.
Dave noted that such conveniences include cabinets with pull-out shelves and lifts, which make it much easier to get heavy appliances, such as a KitchenAid mixer, out of the cabinet.
In addition to a wide range of cabinets, Modern Kitchens & Baths also stocks a wide variety of countertops, appliances, and even flooring. The company can take on kitchen and bathroom remodeling, literally from floor to ceiling.
Our company has a long history and we have the privilege of working with staff and contractors who have decades of experience.
“My grandfather opened Modern Kitchen & Bath in 1950 on South Kingshighway, which was then called Gasoline Alley because there were a lot of car dealerships there. His philosophy was that if a couple was looking to buy a car, he would encourage them to buy a kitchen instead,” says Dave. “South Kingshighway was the place where you could get anything back then.”
Later, when Manchester Road became Commercial Street, Modern Kitchen & Bath opened a second location in West St. Louis County.
“Our family has been running this company for 74 years,” says Dave, “to us, our customers aren't just numbers. Our name is known far and wide. I think 74 years in business is meaningful in itself.”
He invites area residents to stop by any time Monday through Saturday to learn more.
