And Middle East Deli, in the 5400 block of Everhart, has been open for almost a decade.
“Just because we get perfect scores from the inspector doesn't mean the food is good, it means everything else is good. All the dishes, the kitchen, the floors, the freezers, the food. Everything is the way it should be. It's right,” said deli manager Josh Garcia. “And I think that's what translates to good food. It's about keeping everything quality. Making sure everything is up to date. If everything is perfect, then when you cook, you're already off to the right start.”
Josh said he's been the deli manager for almost five years and earned an additional 100 points from inspectors during that time, so he knows what it takes to earn a perfect score and sticker.
So we asked, “Do customers come in and say, 'Oh, you got a perfect score. Let's get started.' Yes, pretty much. They feel very confident and they want to know what it's like.”
Mitchell and Lisa Hamaue, who run the deli and market next door, have been in business here for more than 25 years.
