Big or small, Smeg appliances are showpieces, and that's what HGTV's Jenny Mars and her husband Dave Mars wanted to bring to country singer Gabriel Mooney's home in “Fixer to Fabulous,” Season 5, Episode 12. The TV host completely renovated a metal barn building on Mooney's property, complete with a full kitchen decked out with premium retro kitchen appliances from Smeg.
Jenny installed a sleek black Smeg Fab 50 fridge in a small corner of her kitchen. The fridge is so pretty, it seems to say “hello, look at me” the moment you open the door. At the same time, the new Smeg Portofino gas range blends naturally with the dark cabinets and light countertops, as well as the matching retro Smeg built-in dishwasher. The black Smeg appliances are thoughtful and purposeful pieces that stand out against the stark white kitchen walls, transforming the space into a cozy cottage-style suite. Just off the kitchen, a coffee station with a sleek Smeg coffee machine with adjustable aroma strength brings the whole retro kitchen look to life.
But there are downsides to buying Smeg kitchen appliances: prices are typically higher than those of other appliance brands. Plus, while Smeg's products are beautiful, they've been criticized for prioritizing appearance over functionality, and in some cases, Smeg's small appliances perform worse than products from cheaper brands.
