Still for sale, this historic neighborhood home rental offers plenty of space and a Brooklyn feel.
Located in the picturesque Albemarle-Kenmore Terrace Historic District, this brick single-family home boasts architectural heritage and offers a taste of Brooklyn for rent. Previously featured as a “Home of the Day” and still for sale, the Slee & Bryson-designed home at 221 East 21st Street offers plenty of space with five bedrooms.
Between 1916 and 1917, noted architects Slee & Bryson created this attractive neighborhood with row houses on two cul-de-sac streets and a more substantial home on each corner. Advertisements at the time touted the property as a “unique single-family home” available for purchase for $9,250. The home features the same Neo-Federal details as other homes in the neighborhood, including Flemish red brick and limestone and wood trim. The facade facing Kenmore Terrace has Palladian windows, and the East 21st Street entrance has a simple door hood with decorative brackets.
The interior has been partially renovated, most notably the new kitchen on the main floor. Original details such as parquet floors, picture rails and panelling are still present. Included photos provide a closer look at the drawing room fireplace. A cozy nook features a bench, built-in bookshelves, terracotta floor tiles and a wood-burning fireplace.
The spacious kitchen at the rear of the main floor opens onto the dining room. The contemporary farmhouse-style space features an apron-front sink, butcher block counters and pale gray glass-topped cabinets. A door opens onto the paved backyard with dining area.
Upstairs there are two floors of sleeping space and three bathrooms: The main suite on the second floor has a windowed dressing room and an en-suite bathroom with double vanities;
The basement also has a laundry room, storage space and, according to the floor plan, a bathroom.
Lee Solomon and Andrew B. Van Dusen of Brown Harris Stevens are marketing the property. It rents for $7,500 per month. As mentioned above, it's also available to buy for $2.5 million. What do you think?
