According to police, a moped driver struck two men, rendering them unconscious, in the early hours of July 23 in the Hell's Kitchen neighborhood. One of the victims was taken to the hospital in critical condition. The unidentified moped driver is wanted on suspicion of assault and is currently at large.
The incident happened just before 2:40 a.m. in front of Rudy's Bar and Grill at 627 Ninth Avenue near the corner of 43rd Street. Police say a moped driver traveling southbound on the sidewalk struck a 56-year-old man and an altercation ensued. The moped driver briefly left the scene but then turned around and punched the 56-year-old man in the face, knocking him unconscious.
The unconscious man's 38-year-old friend, who was sitting in a regular car parked nearby, got out and confronted the moped driver. Like his friend, he was quickly beaten unconscious by the moped driver, who struck the back of his head on the concrete.
A 56-year-old man was taken by ambulance to Mount Sinai West Hospital where he is in stable condition, while a 38-year-old man was rushed to Bellevue Hospital where he was listed in critical condition.
according to Daily News, The 56-year-old victim was on a business trip from Illinois, and his seriously injured younger friend was a Brooklyn resident and German immigrant.
Police said the moped driver then used a black vehicle.–The man was wearing a black helmet and a white shirt to escape to an “unknown location.” CCTV footage was released.
