Chapel Hill, North Carolina — A popular restaurant that has been a fixture on the Chapel Hill dining scene for 48 years is closing.
The owners of Mama Dip's Kitchen announced Monday that the restaurant will close on Aug. 17.
“We can't wait to meet you on our next adventure,” the owner wrote.
Since opening, Mama Dips has been named to numerous “best” lists, including The Daily Meal's “Best Fried Chicken in America” and Culture Trip's “Top 12 Places for Soul Food in the Southern States.” The restaurant has also been a favorite haunt for celebrities, including Michael Jordan, former University of North Carolina basketball coach Dean Smith, and tennis star Venus Williams.
Spring said his goal is to reopen as a fast-casual or take-out restaurant elsewhere in Chapel Hill and to franchise the Mama Dips brand to add more locations.
