The letter came from St Albans Mayor Tim Smith.
In your recent article of July 16th, I believe some of my comments may have been quoted out of context and I would like to set the record straight.
St. Albans is home to a number of service agencies that help those who don't have a place to live, are battling addiction, have mental health issues, or simply need a good meal.
For St. Albans to find a way out of its growing public safety problems caused by many of the issues I have mentioned previously, we need to make the most of the resources we have and hold people accountable for their actions.
“I believe Martha's Kitchen is one of our best partners when it comes to holding people accountable for their actions and maintaining high standards of behavior. Some individuals have received trespass notices primarily for unacceptable behavior and not following the rules. I don't think there is another nonprofit in the area, maybe even the entire state, that is run more well.”
Bob Begley and Martha's Board of Directors provide quality free meals every day, and most people who stop by Martha's Kitchen are grateful for the food and friendship. Many of them also give back to their community by participating in Green Up Day or picking up cigarette butts in Taylor Park. A special thanks goes out to Martha's Kitchen, Deacon Bob, the Board of Directors, and all the volunteers and donors.
