Two national home improvement retailers filing for bankruptcy will close stores in Augusta and Columbia counties.
Connie's Home Plus is acquiring rival Badcock Home Furniture & More in December 2023, but the combined retailer filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection earlier this month, according to numerous media and industry reports this week.
The stores scheduled for closure include Badcock at 5107 Wrightsboro Rd. in Grovetown and Conn's at 596 Bobby Jones Expy. in Augusta.

In addition to the Grovetown location, Badcock locations in Cedartown, Marietta, Lawrenceville and Toccoa will also be closing, according to a list posted on Badcock's website.
A similar list on Cone's website lists stores in Columbus, Douglasville, Fayetteville, Newnan and Stone Mountain as among the stores to close.
More stores to close? Other media outlets have reported that all Badcock stores nationwide are scheduled to close. The Athens Banner-Herald, part of the USA Today Network, spoke with employees at an Athens-area Badcock store who said their store will also be closing.
“It's hard to say, but the Badcock name is going to be pretty much gone,” Toccoa store manager Tim Mullen said Friday.
Employees at the Athens store were notified of the closure via email on Thursday, according to employees. The Badcock store will remain open until about Oct. 31 for a closing-out sale, Badcock announced on its website.
An automated message told people who called the Baddock store at 3241 Washington St. in Augusta on Friday afternoon that “no one is available to answer the phone. ” Multiple calls Friday afternoon to the Baddock in North Augusta (406 E. Martintown Rd.), the Baddock in Aiken (3609 Richland Ave. W.) and the Baddock in Thompson (683 Main St.) went unanswered.
