HELL'S KITCHEN, Manhattan (PIX11) — A Brooklyn man has died a week after he was punched unconscious while trying to defend a friend during a fight with a moped driver in Hell's Kitchen, police said Tuesday.
According to the New York City Police Department, Florian Ortmann, 38, was involved in an altercation outside a bar at 627 9th Avenue in Hell's Kitchen around 2:40 a.m. on July 23, during which he was punched in the face, slammed his head on the sidewalk and lost consciousness.
The suspect was riding his motorcycle on the sidewalk when he collided with a 56-year-old man and a fight ensued. Police say the motorcyclist punched the man in the face and when Oltman intervened, he attacked the suspect.
Both men were rendered unconscious, but Ortman was the only one seriously injured in the incident, authorities said.
The suspect fled on a moped after the attack. No arrests have been made.
