The Station, Terre Haute's remote work space at The Hub at 900 Wabash Avenue, now has a facility to support culinary entrepreneurs.
It has a commercial kitchen that meets Health Department standards. The renovations were made possible by his $30,000 grant from the Wabash Valley Community Foundation.
Target audiences include food truck owners who don't have prep space in their mobile units. A caterer without a fixed location. Pop-up restaurants and bakeries that mainly sell at mobile markets.
Many of these businesses require full-time physical kitchen space. However, these businesses are typically required to operate in a commercial kitchen licensed by the local health department, according to a news release.
“Terre Haute truly loves our restaurants, and we think this would be a great option as a cost-effective way to really get their business off the ground,” said The Station member. said Lindsay English, Director of Engagement.
A business hub for remote workers, entrepreneurs, chefs, and the community, The Station is located in the former Clubber Girl Museum and Bake Shop.
The kiosk's kitchen is equipped with a 6-burner stove/oven. Charcoal grill. Combi oven. Multiple refrigeration units. and other equipment.
“Those who want to start a food entrepreneur will need to make multiple investments in their product, but we are able to reduce the cost of providing them with access to commercial kitchen space that they can use,” said English. We will provide a highly effective method.”
English said the station has already received several calls, some wanting to reserve a space right away.
English said the Community Foundation grant helped renovate the space and work with the health department.
To use the commissary kitchen, you must be a station member, and the membership fee is $70 per month.
Station members can rent the commissary kitchen for $25 per hour.
Beth Tevlin, president and CEO of the Wabash Valley Community Foundation, said the facility will provide local culinary entrepreneurs with access to a commercial kitchen.
She added: “I think this is a great reuse of a wonderful building of historical significance” that will help entrepreneurs develop their businesses. This building once housed Hulman & Co.
These entrepreneurs will also have the ability to interact with other entrepreneurs and business community leaders currently located at 900 Wabash Street, including the Terre Haute Chamber of Commerce, Tevlin said.
