Common seating arrangement
Skip the bar-style seating at the kitchen island and enjoy quality conversations with loved ones in a place where everyone feels included. “Isles that you can talk to versus having a cook doing all the work or feeding you by the island are definitely coming back,” Swanson said.
combination island
According to Anastasia Casey of IDCO Studio, 2024 will give you the best of both worlds when it comes to kitchen islands. “We're going to see more combinations of islands in kitchens, meaning 50 to 60 percent of islands have closed storage underneath, and the remaining 40 to 50 percent have large drawers and open space above. “It's going to have simple furniture-style legs with a counter-height stool that you can put down and it'll be hidden underneath,” she says.
gorgeous lighting
“I feel like people are starting to lose their desire for modest kitchens, and the larger-than-life trend is coming back,” says designer Laura Williams of ATX Interior Design. “For example, oversized and statement light fixtures will be her look for 2024.”

gold hardware
NKBA predicted that matte black would take second place as homeowners seek gold. Matte, satin and brushed kitchen sink faucets have a golden glow and create a warmer atmosphere.
blend of materials
“You'll also see a continuation of the wood grain in the kitchens, combining wood and painted cabinetry in more innovative ways,” says Casey. For example, in 2024 we will be introducing stained wood cabinet towers with painted lower cabinets.
Food Network star Molly Yeh created this creation in her home kitchen. Seen here. The baking area has a cool and practical marble top, and the island has a butcher block with wooden drawers for prep and serving.
green
Asked about kitchen color trends for 2024, NKBA said green will be the top choice. From calming sage to empowering emerald, green isn't going anywhere. Green is easy to incorporate into your kitchen color scheme and can add a pop of color to your kitchen cabinets.

A high-class coffee break
Your coffee maker deserves to be on full display next year. Homeowners are considering installing a drinks station in the kitchen in 2024. This upgrade includes a coffee bar with a built-in coffee maker, a wet bar, and a smoothie station with space to store glassware in the cabinet.
decorative range hood
NKBA reports that creative range hood designs will increase, including wood, stainless steel, and mixed materials for custom looks. If you want to continue a particular color story in your home, you can always achieve the trend by painting over your existing wooden hood.
This custom range hood in designer Alison Victoria's Atlanta loft was created by Mark Wentz of America Fabrication & Design. “I wanted a hood that was unlike anything I'd seen before, one that was artistic but still functioned properly,” she says.
undercounter refrigerator
According to Swanson, the under-counter refrigerator trend is spreading everywhere, and manufacturers are responding with dual refrigerators and dual under-counter refrigerator drawers. “The idea of installing appliances in non-traditional kitchen spaces continues to be a trend, with appliances being placed throughout the house where you can quickly grab a cold drink. Appliances are still in the kitchen, but downstairs We have it in our kitchen, we go to the bar, we go to the movie room,” she says.

true outdoor bar
Expanding the drink station outdoors! People want to be able to have fun without getting into their cars. “You can eat dinner in the beautiful kitchen upstairs, but keep the party at home, outside of the main kitchen,” says Swanson. “Maybe you want to put the kids to bed and don't want a noisy afterparty that affects your bedroom space.”
Harley Hafen designed this spectacular Napa Valley outdoor space with a bar, dance floor, and long dining table for entertaining friends and family.
warm forest
NKBA and Swanson are looking forward to bringing warm natural wood tones back into kitchens. The trend of coating cabinets in white has taken a backseat. The natural high texture and wood patterns of the cabinets bring an organic feel to the kitchen, especially if they are part of a contemporary, mid-century, or Scandinavian design.
Interior design firm BHDM gave a 1970s Catskills home, originally designed by local Japanese-American architect Ikuyo Tagawa, modern updates while preserving its original features.
Stress-free layout
Clean up your kitchen with a thoughtfully designed minimalist layout. Think cabinets and appliances with push-to-open technology, ample pantry space, floor-to-ceiling cabinetry, easy-to-clean quartz countertops, and grout-free floors. These features reduce housework and make cleaning and maintenance easier.
Minimalist doesn't mean boring. This is evidenced in this neutral kitchen designed by Corinne Mathern Studio.
