It may only be March, but this year's kitchen trends are going back to basics. More and more designers are opting for unpainted cabinetry to celebrate the organic nature of wood, and no space celebrates this look more than couple Matthew and Camila McConaughey.
The McConaughey family took their Austin home back to basics long before trend forecasters started writing about the rise of wood kitchen cabinets. Their vertical cabinetry shows the best of this style, extending almost to the ceiling above the marble island.
The couple chose elm-colored wood with sleek black handles to give the natural space a modern feel. But as the designer explains, wood in all its forms is shaping the way we decorate in 2024. And it goes beyond kitchen cabinets.
Herringbone owner William Durrant listed natural oak at the top of his kitchen trend predictions for this year, noting that the wood is perfect for furniture that will stand the test of time, along with cabinetry.
“This includes natural, stained, detailed, or washed wood statement pieces that bring warmth, elegance, and luxurious texture to your kitchen space, such as islands, dressers, and display units,” says Durant. Masu. “This material creates lovely, timeless furniture that will stand the test of time. When combined with highly veined marble, these two textural powerhouses create a true wow factor. .”
The benefits of following suit, whether it's wood cabinets or the aforementioned statement pieces, are no secret. Wood is not only beautiful, but also sustainable, and despite being labeled a “trend,” this look is not temporary.
“Stained wood is a great element to add to your kitchen as a texture. Not only does the grain look great as a visual element, but it also adds depth to the look and creates a bit of a 'wow factor,' says Durant. say.
Plus, if you're already using another cabinetry shade, you can incorporate wood into small accessories and furniture without worrying about it looking out of place. '[Wood] It brings warm tones to a space and pairs well with white and cool colors,” says Durant.
“Wood tones create a warm atmosphere, while also bringing natural elements and color into your home. Additionally, pair them with brassware for warmer tones or offset cold gauges such as chrome or nickel. You can also.”
William Durant has worked in the kitchen industry for almost a decade. After he learned from his leading kitchen brands, he founded Herringbone Kitchens because he wanted to manage all aspects of a design project. He currently runs a UK-based kitchen company where he manages a talented creative team and creates kitchens while observing international design trends.
