Controlling patio moss growth isn't easy, but there are some surprising kitchen ingredients. White vinegar works wonders for removing green clumps.
Moss particularly likes the crevices of paving slabs, but it can be difficult to remove (even with the right tools). However, the acetic acid found in vinegar, a traditional cleaning solution, can effectively remove moss from brick buildings, driveways, and paths.
“Vinegar is a relatively cheap and easy way to remove moss from pavers. The acetic acid in vinegar can kill moss on your pavers,” said Harwood Garden Supply Experts. The Express. “For best results, use white vinegar with a solution of about 5 percent. But for a stronger option, try a 6 percent cleaning vinegar solution.”
Are you preparing your garden for spring? Here's how to remove moss using white vinegar:
1. Before you begin, lightly dab a little white vinegar on the corners of the moss-covered paving slabs. This will help you determine whether you need to use it as is or dilute it with water. For severe breakouts, you may need to pour vinegar directly onto the moss.
2. Cover the affected area with vinegar and leave it for about an hour. Next, use an old scrub brush to thoroughly remove the moss. It should crumble easily thanks to the vinegar.
3. Finally, fill a bucket with soapy water to wash away any remaining moss. A pressure washer is also effective here, with a final spray to remove any moss that may be needed. Your outdoor space will look as good as new.
