According to authorities, around 2:30 a.m. Sunday, an SUV crashed into the front of a Cape-style single-family home at 780 East Falmouth Highway in East Falmouth.
When emergency personnel arrived on scene, they found a mid-sized SUV parked in the kitchen of the home.
“Complete penetration of the building caused significant damage to vehicles and residences, including water leaks, electrical damage and structural damage,” a release from Falmouth Fire and Rescue Department said.
The same home was struck by a car two years ago, on Aug. 1, 2021. In that incident, the driver, a man in his 20s, was killed. Fire officials at the time said they found no structural damage to the home from the 2021 crash.
The driver of the SUV was able to extricate himself from the vehicle Sunday morning before rescue crews arrived. The driver was taken to Falmouth Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
What happened to the people inside the house?
Everyone in the home and pets were evacuated and no one was injured. Falmouth Fire and Rescue Department said electricity, natural gas and water were restored.
Fire officials said crews reinforced the damaged structure before Costas Auto Body removed the car from the home at 5:38 a.m. Sunday.
The home is now uninhabitable and the city's inspection agency is working with the owner to investigate. Falmouth Police will continue to investigate the incident.
The house is across from a T-junction where Central Avenue meets the freeway.
