In Down Home Fab Season 2, Episode 7, Chelsea and Cole renovate a home for a couple who are now out raising their kids. As adult parents, they want a new space to start a new relationship with their kids. Because the family tends to congregate in the kitchen, the DeBoers wanted to create a sophisticated, grown-up space where the family could gather and catch up. To achieve this, Chelsea chose two-tone Shaker cabinets. She chose an off-white color for the majority of the cabinets, but a dark wood stain for the large pantry and vent hood at the end of the kitchen. This brought a natural element into the space, balancing the all-white kitchen.
You can do the same at home by choosing and replacing a key door. Look at the layout of your kitchen to narrow down which cabinet doors make the most sense to replace. Is there a pantry corner that could be highlighted with a new wooden door? A cabinet where you store all your favorite glassware? Or is there a cabinet section that feels separate from the rest of your kitchen? These are great candidates. To replace your doors, measure your cabinet boxes and choose a style and wood type from a shop like The Cabinet Door Store that sells factory-direct cabinet doors. You can then stain the doors any color you like.
