LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — It's that time of year again to nominate a person or family member who deserves a special gift this holiday season.
Walker Furniture's “Home for the Holidays” program is in its 30th year. The program will give 35 people a home's worth of new furniture.
“For the past 30 years, our annual Home for the Holidays program has changed the lives of countless people who have found themselves stuck and in need of furniture due to unfortunate circumstances,” said owner Larry Alter. Witts says. “This is an opportunity for our community to get involved by sending a letter explaining a family or personal situation. Do your part to help someone.”
Letters of recommendation will be accepted until Tuesday, December 12, 2023. We recommend that you send the letter as soon as possible. Anyone can submit a letter, which must describe the candidate's unusual or heartbreaking circumstances.
“You can see some kind of magic starting to happen with the receiver,” Alterwitz added. “What starts as a dining room table suddenly becomes a sense of hope and pride. A sofa comes through the front door and turns into a tribute. A bedroom set transforms the room into a space of inspiring dreams and endless possibilities. I’ll change it to a place.”
Other organizations are working with Walker to read and review the letters, and 35 organizations with the greatest need will be selected by a committee that includes community leaders, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, Las Vegas Fire and Rescue, and local media. .
Letters should be submitted online at this link or mailed to Larry Alterwitz at Walker's Furniture MLK store, 301 S. Martin Luther King Blvd., Las Vegas, NV 89106. Letters can also be picked up at Walker's stores in downtown Las Vegas or Henderson. .
Since the program began in 1994, Walker Furniture has furnished more than 1,000 homes.
