GREECE, N.Y. (WROC) — Coming to Greece on Friday is Aunty's Jamaican Kitchen. This is an authentic Jamaican fast casual restaurant with a little twist on the menu. The address is 1250 Latta Road. The grand opening will be from 11 a.m. Friday until sold out.
Sherry Ann Robinson is the owner and head chef and works as a head nurse at a local hospital. In her words, “If I'm not there, I'm in (the restaurant).”
She is originally from Jamaica and came to New York when she was 19 years old, eventually ending up in Rochester.
The menu here includes jerk chicken and wings, goat and chicken curry, beef tail, and something called “Rasta pasta.” Her version comes with a creamy sauce with jerk chicken, shrimp, and whatever else you want.
She started out as a cook for a large family, and years later, she still loves food.
“What’s rewarding is seeing the look on their faces,” she said. “And when you get people to try new things that they wouldn't normally try, they love it, especially cabbage. Not a lot of big eaters, but the cabbage stir-fry here. love.”
As for the store's name, Robinson named it after her aunt, Esther. At 80 years old, she still helps Sherry Ann in the kitchen.
