Barbra Streisand may have won a Screen Actors Guild Lifetime Award for her prolific career and humanitarian work, but we can't help but notice her design talent as well.
At her California home, the actress (unintentionally) embraces a rustic farmhouse kitchen aesthetic. This style has already shaped the way we decorate for many seasons now. However, its charm has never wavered. According to her recent Google Trends data, searches for this design style are currently up 130%. In short, farmhouse kitchens are both timeless and very trendy at the same time. But of course, Barbra Streisand is ahead of her time.
The actress shared a corner of (what appears to be) her kitchen, which celebrates this nostalgic design movement. This corner features a large wooden dresser adorned with vintage ceramic panels, both of which embrace the ultimate farmhouse look.
“Farmhouse-style kitchens are designed with an emphasis on comfort, traditionalism, and feel, making this design an attractive option for those looking to create an inviting sanctuary,” says Kitchen Designer. Tom Howley commented. He says the use of natural wood, like this cabinet dresser, is essential to achieving a farmhouse aesthetic and makes it the perfect base for accessories (especially ceramics, as in Barbra's case).
“Natural wood is essential in farmhouse kitchens because it adds warmth and tactility,” he says. “Wood can be incorporated in the form of flooring, freestanding furniture such as farmhouse tables, integrated wood trays to break up shelves, cutting boards, or painted cabinets.”
Barbra's Cabinet Dresser is a beautiful starting point, but Tom says you can emphasize the farmhouse kitchen aesthetic with traditional Shaker-style cabinets. “They're great for creating a cozy, lived-in look,” he says. “Shaker style has universal appeal with beautifully balanced proportions, with an emphasis on scale, symmetry and simplicity.”
As hinted, Barbra accentuates the look with accessories, especially ceramic plates. Decorations with antiques, especially delicate pottery, are unique and personal. It pays homage to the patterns, colors and designs that bring us the most joy, and is timeless and remains an heirloom for generations.
To add even more personality, Barbara decorated the cabinets with flowers and vintage candlesticks, a further nod to the ever-growing trend. You can take advantage of that look with similar purchases below.
