No more bowls: Bare Naked Kitchen on West Tennessee Street has closed after three years in business.
All that remains is the now-familiar typed notice taped to the inside of the building's front window, announcing its demise.
“The decision to close our stores was not taken lightly and circumstances change, and we would like to extend our sincere gratitude to our dedicated staff and valued customers,” the company said.
A moving truck was spotted in front of the restaurant Wednesday morning.
The restaurant, located at 609 W. Tennessee St., offered a hearty, healthy menu that was a collaboration between one of Tampa Bay's most well-known chefs, Chris Ponte, and Outback Steakhouse co-founder Bob Basham.
News of the closure began spreading on social media food group Tallahassee Foodies after someone inquired about the store's status.
One user commented: “Wow!! This is the closest place I could find to Tampa!”
As previously reported by the Tallahassee Democrat, this was the venture's first location.
The idea was to take guests on a culinary journey using “whole” ingredients like fresh fruits, fresh vegetables, and fresh proteins. The target demographic was Florida State University students and busy workers looking to fuel up for the day.
Fresh bowls and cauliflower crust pizza were the restaurant's main draw, and it competed with bowl-focused joints such as Chipotle Mexican Grill and Cava, which opened on West Tennessee Street last fall.
Bare Naked Kitchen's Tampa location will remain open.
