SCHENECTADY — Bluebird Home Decoration has launched a closing sale for its State Street store after the owner announced on Facebook that the store would be closing in March.
“A little over a year ago, I started experiencing minor irritation that I couldn't ignore,” owner Nicole Broughton said in a Facebook post Friday. “After much thought and prayer, we have made the very difficult decision to exit our Schenectady retail store.”
The store opened in 2018. But owner Broughton founded the home décor and gift shop in 2013, after having a previous location in Troy.
The store stocks handmade, vintage and new items for people's homes and works with more than 20 artists and other businesses across the country, according to the company's website.
Broughton said she doesn't know what she'll do next.
“I know my creativity doesn't end here. I'm still going to exist and sell it in some way,” the Facebook post states. “I just stepped out in faith, opened up my storefronts, and believe the best is yet to come. I can't wait to see what the next few years hold.”
Mr Broughton also thanked everyone for his support over the years in the post.
“Creating and sharing this space with you has been one of the greatest honors and blessings of my life. I will miss you dearly,” she said. “We sincerely thank everyone for their support over the years.”
The post received many comments from customers expressing their regret over the closure.
Anita Nast said in a comment: “I'm so sad to see this post…I don't often, but I went on a binge at your restaurant.” “I was so happy to walk through the front door and find so many charming gifts and special items for myself. They will now mean even more to me. You We sincerely hope that you find the most rewarding path in your future. We wish you all the best and thank you for adding classes like this to your corner.”
The store will be offering sales until close, and everything is final.
“Most items are 30/40/50% off, and items without sale tags are 10% off,” Broughton said. “The store will be open Thursdays through Sundays through mid-March. Don’t forget to take advantage of our gift cards! We will also be holding a tent sale this May, with more details to come, and will be open throughout the metropolitan area during the holiday season. I’d love to open a holiday shop somewhere.”
