Broadway Box Office Analysis: hell's kitchen, Saf, cabaretsee more Highest box office week ever
Last week's box office data may indicate the impact of this year's Tony Award nominations.

Overall, Broadway had a pretty healthy week, with cumulative box office revenue up nearly 3% despite theatergoers seeing one less show (Sweeney Todd Closed on May 5th). This translated to him making $35.7 million, an increase of 14% from the same week last year. And unsurprisingly, seats are still filled. Last week, 286,841 people saw Broadway shows, filling 90% of the seats for all 34 productions currently running. The average ticket price also rose to $124.55.
The biggest winners of the new season remain cabaretjoined The $2 Million Club for the first time last week and continues to earn the highest average ticket price on Main Stem at $235, thanks in no small part to the revival. This made the Tony-nominated revival of Kander and Ebb his second highest-grossing show of the following week. The Lion Kingand hamilton, Eviland MJ the musical Fill in the rest of the top five.
Overall, cumulative box office receipts have had some volatile ups and downs in recent weeks, but given that so many shows are opening and inviting press and awards voters for free. That's only natural. Broadway remains on an overall upward trend, with hopes for a healthy post-Tony summer season.
