Broadway Box Office Analysis: Welcome to the Million Dollar Club great gatsby, hell's kitchen, With, The Who's Tommyand cabaret
Main Stem's latest show is making waves at the box office.
New shows are captivating audiences and boosting Broadway box office sales. Last week, five new productions (only one was officially released) joined the $1 Million Club. great gatsby, hell's kitchen, With, Tommy from The Whoand cabaret.
cabaret, Olivier's revival of the star who transferred from his award-winning West End run to Broadway, grossed a staggering $1.5 million in its first week in theaters with just six previews. The production was noted for its high ticket prices, with the average amount paid for the first six screenings being $238.29. But with a dramatically reconfigured theater (the traditional proscenium, the August Wilson, became an in-round Kit Kat Club) and a pre-show that will likely result in overtime pay for many departments, Producers will want it to continue.
On a less grand scale, we also saw some early signs of success last week, especially led by Lincoln Center's Steve Carell. Uncle Vanya resurrection and stereo sound. The latter grossed $203,743.65 in just four previews, easily making it one of Broadway's highest-grossing productions in its first full week. sold for $40). Vanya, on the other hand, earned $662,221 from 5 previews. This could indicate that we can expect an additional $1 million in club participants once the piece is available for play for a full week.
Due to the success of some of these new titles, the Broadway box office soared overall last week, grossing more than $39 million across the 37 performances currently playing, an increase of 6.34% over the same week last year. (even though this season had one less performance than the previous season). The average ticket price is actually down a bit, but that metric is holding steady at $129, so there's no need to worry too much.
More than 305,211 people went to see Broadway shows last week, but only eight of the 37 titles playing were 90% (or more) full. And amazingly, 10 shows were completely sold out that week.
With four weeks left (until today!) until the 2024 Tony nominees drop out, the race is clearly on.
