The Broncos Kitchen Foundation awarded Courtney Hubert Tortorelli a $500 scholarship in recognition of her contributions to the Kalamazoo community.
“When my mom and I co-founded Broncos Kitchen in 2012, we proposed to our board of directors that we establish a scholarship program to recognize the efforts of the students who support us,” said Brian, founder of Broncos Kitchen.・Pastor Stein said.
Broncos Kitchen is a nonprofit organization that provides free weekly meals to college students in the Kalamazoo area.
Tortorelli, a third-year product design student, racked up the most volunteer hours of any Broncos Kitchen volunteer, highlighting efforts to fight hunger within the Kalamazoo community.
Tortorelli first started working at the Broncos Kitchen two years ago and has been a dedicated volunteer ever since.
“Volunteering has been a very rewarding experience and I am grateful for the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of people in our community,” she said.
Her dedication to helping others has previously earned her the Joan Lafayette Volunteer of the Year Award in both 2022 and 2023.
Outside of her volunteer time, Ms. Tortorelli was recognized for her outstanding character.
“Courtney is a loving, caring, thoughtful human being,” Stein said. “She cared about her peers and she cared for them like a mother hen while the Broncos volunteered her services in the kitchen.”
“I'm so grateful. I didn't know anything about it,” Tortorelli said.
Tortorelli said the scholarship will allow him to continue his education and pursue his dream of becoming a product designer.
