Each year, Buddy's Pizza dedicates a day to raising money for people in need during its Slice for Life event. The Detroit-born chain's annual event is getting a unique twist this year aimed at raising additional funds.
On Monday, Buddy's will donate 20% of all dine-in and carry-out sales at all 23 restaurants to the Capuchin Soup Kitchen organization. But that's not all. You can also compete for a piece of pizza history in an online auction of five authentic Buddy's Pizza custom pans.
The deep, square pans once used by automakers to hold parts have long been identified with Buddies. Over the years, they've helped give his style of pizza its identity in Detroit, using the method of pizza assembly pioneered by Buddy's: a crispy edge with a caramelized cheese crust and sauce on top of the cheese. Ta.
Buddy's partnership with Capuchin Soup Kitchen began in 1976 at Buddy's original location at Six Mile and Conant in Detroit. Since then, Buddy's has donated more than $4 million of his money to Capuchin programs. Last year, nearly $100,000 was raised.
