California woman smells strange odor and discovers rat-like creature in kitchen

You may have had the experience of seeing something strange in a corner of your home or smelling an unfamiliar smell. If it happened in a store or another room, it may not be a cause for concern, but if the smell is coming from the kitchen, it is hard to ignore. Recently, a similar incident happened to a woman.

The woman noticed a strange smell coming from her kitchen. She didn't know where it was coming from or why. Then she saw two eyes staring at her. The Daily Star reports that the incident happened at the home of 28-year-old Jackie Felix, who shared her experience with others.

Jackie Felix, a woman who works for the New Mexico Department of Health in Union City, California, noticed a strange odor in her apartment and initially thought it was coming from the trash can. She moved the trash can out of the kitchen and threw it away, but the smell persisted and she realized something was wrong. When Jackie moved the stove away from the wall, she discovered animal waste. Horrified by this discovery, she began searching the area more thoroughly.

When they removed the gas stove, they saw a small creature with a pink nose staring back at them. On closer inspection, they realized it was a possum, a rodent-like creature that belongs to the kangaroo family. The possum had been living in the woman's stove for several days. After a two-hour struggle, Jackie and her housemate managed to capture the creature in a jar.

Jackie said: “We don't know how long the possum had been there – judging by its droppings it must have been there for at least a week. We don't know how it managed to survive but once we had a look it looked pretty healthy.”

Jackie didn't see the possum get into the house or stove, but she was convinced it had gotten in through the back cat door, which she explained wasn't caught on camera or anything, but that's how it must have gotten in.
