An SUV crashed into the front of a Cape Cod home and into the kitchen early Sunday morning. The accident happened around 2:30 a.m. on East Falmouth Highway across Central Avenue in Falmouth. The Volkswagen appears to have crossed a large front yard before slamming into the home, with enough force to completely penetrate the interior of the building. The crash left the home uninhabitable, according to the Falmouth Fire Department. “There was significant damage to the vehicle and home due to full penetration into the interior of the building, including water leaks, electrical hazards and structural damage,” fire officials said in a statement. The driver of the SUV was able to extricate himself from the vehicle and was later transported to Falmouth Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. No other injuries were reported and all residents of the home and their pets were safely evacuated. Fire officials said crews had to reinforce the damaged structure before the vehicle could be towed away.
