ADOBE by Jess Vargas, a home décor store in Carlsbad, sources stunning, artisan-made, ethically sourced goods from around the world.
“All of our products are carefully selected with sustainability in mind, eco-friendly, handcrafted and artisanal,” Vargas said, with each item reflecting the personality of its maker.
“It's about connecting the pieces with the artists and telling their stories in a different way,” she said. “I really appreciate that everything in the store has a little story to it, it makes it that much more special.”
Vargas, an interior stylist, began her career in design as a visual lead at retailer Anthropologie for 10 years before branching out on her own to tackle design projects, partnering with small businesses to launch pop-up stores, and eventually opening her own store at The Beacon La Costa shopping mall (7740 El Camino Real).
Drawing inspiration from her travels, Vargas curates a collection of objects from around the world that tell the story of the artisan behind the craft.
Unique finds include Balinese teakware, recycled hand-blown glassware, handmade African baskets, Japanese ceramics, and Mexican and Thai handicrafts.
She also offers styling services, a collection of handmade candles made from coconut and soy wax, and seasonal member boxes.
Vargas said she loves being a part of the Carlsbad community and collaborating with other area businesses like Kaji, a San Diego-based company that works with women in Africa to weave artisanal products.
She said people who visit the Carlsbad store often comment on the great smells and “the energy in the store.”
