CARMEL — A fire broke out at a restaurant in Carmel on Tuesday, causing extensive damage to the building.
Monterey Fire Department responded to the scene at Carmel Burger Bar. During business hours, a report of smoke in the building was received. Everyone inside was able to escape safely.
When firefighters arrived, they found the fire starting in the kitchen wall and crawl space behind the stove. Crews were able to contain the fire to the interior, preventing it from spreading to connected businesses. No injuries to anyone inside the building or firefighters were reported.
The building sustained significant fire and structural damage, with losses estimated at approximately $175,000. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but firefighters say there is nothing suspicious.
A total of 25 fire personnel responded, led by the Monterey Fire Department, including three engines, two ladder trucks, four chiefs, and a fire investigator from the Monterey Pebble Beach Community Services District Fire Department. American Medical Response, Carmel Police Department, county health department, Carmel CERT and PG&E also responded, according to the Monterey Fire Department.
