A fire broke out at a home in Normal Saturday afternoon, causing extensive damage, according to the Normal Fire Department.
No injuries were reported among residents or firefighters in the fire in the 300 block of Highland Avenue, but one cat died from smoke inhalation. The resident's three dogs also escaped safely, according to the fire department.
Firefighters were called to the home at 12:36 p.m. after reports of a fire in the kitchen, which quickly spread up the wall, police said.
Firefighters had the blaze under control in about 25 minutes, according to NFD. The kitchen and upper rooms sustained extensive fire damage, and there was significant smoke damage throughout the home.
Normal Fire Department spokesman Matt Swaney said late Saturday that the home is uninhabitable until the damage can be assessed. Swaney said the insurance company is providing temporary housing.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
