Abrazo Scottsdale Campus and Abrazo Cave Creek Hospital completed their annual Healthy Over Hungry Cereal Drive, with hospital staff and physicians collecting more than 1,500 servings of cereal to donate to Kitchen on the Streets.
The cereal drive takes place every June and is designed to help families who experience food insecurity over the summer, which can be a difficult time for many children in need as they can no longer rely on school lunches for a nutritious breakfast.
“Donations raised through the Healthy Over Hungry Cereal Drive will help provide healthy breakfasts to local children who are experiencing hunger throughout the summer,” said Ruben Castro, CEO of Abrazo Scottsdale Campus and Abrazo Cave Creek Hospital.
Kitchen on the Street is a local community nonprofit based in the Northeast Valley created to end child hunger in Arizona. The organization promotes programs to end child hunger in Arizona and educates the community about the issues that arise from food insecurity.
Abrazo Health knows the importance of a nutritious breakfast and hopes this initiative will benefit many in the community.
“Good nutrition is essential to good health and we want to lead the fight against hunger in the Northeast Valley,” Castro said. “We're grateful for the support of our staff and the community in this effort.”
Previous cereal donation drives have been a success, with thousands of servings of cereal collected thanks to the support of hospital staff and doctors.
