As a judge on “Top Chef'' and host of “Last Chance Kitchen.'' Tom Colicchio sent two Chefs return to competition mid-season (Su Ann and Carina Bliss), which meant the judges were obliged to exclude two chefs at some point to balance everything out. They did just that with “The Good Land.” There, chefs were tasked with honoring Native American cuisine. amanda turner and Laura Ozilmaz We were both guilty of cramming too many ideas and ingredients into our dishes, so we both had to pack our knives and leave. But what did they do when they both had to face the current LCK champion? Kevin D'Andrea? Watch Part 1 of the Triple Threat Match above and scroll down to watch Part 2.?
The first half of the challenge was the Mise-en-Place Ekiden. The chef had to select and cook one ingredient at a time. Tom inspected their preparations and then moved on to the next one. At the end of each he will have to select five ingredients as such and in the second half of the challenge he will have to incorporate all those ingredients into a dish. But wait, that's not all. The person who completed the five ingredients fastest was given 30 minutes to cook. The next one was 25 minutes. And in the end it only took 20 minutes.
Since Amanda won the Mise en Place race, she decided to use her extra time boldly. I made a cake with egg whites and flavored it with the citrus fruits I collected in the first round. Kevin took second place and spent 25 minutes on a variation of French Onion Soup with Chicken. Laura was limited and wanted to complete grilled fish and two sauces in 20 minutes. In the end, Tom liked all three of his dishes that the chefs presented. Especially considering the time limit he diabolically imposed. So in the end, he made a decision based on which chef made a small mistake. Unfortunately for Kevin, he overcooked his chicken a little and had to be permanently ejected from the competition, but Amanda and Laura made it through to next week's 'LCK' finale. Who will re-enter the contest for another chance at the grand prize? We'll soon find out.
