(PUEBLO, CO) — On Saturday, July 20, Pueblo’s top chefs will pit their skills against one another in the latest electric kitchen technology at Fuel & Iron Food Hall during “Pueblo Plate-Up” on Electric Avenue. This free event will run from 3 to 4 p.m. and is open to the public.
Chefs compete in teams of two, each partnering with a Pueblo producer to highlight local ingredients from the region.
Ryan from Union Pizza and Chuck from The Hungry Buffalo receive produce from Musso Farms and create a bison and chili lasagna, which features freshly made pasta, Pueblo chiles, and a bison red sauce made with San Marzano tomatoes.
Chad and Nako from The Cutting Board and Chelsea from Trailglazers will partner with Millberger Farms to create harvest bruschetta, asparagus focaccia, marinated mushroom duxelles, lemon miso asparagus, marinated grape tomatoes and vegan feta.
Richard and Mary of Diavolo Hot Chicken and Ed and Dorothea of Steel Crescent Kitchen will use ingredients from Crites Farm to create heirloom tomato salad with opal basil vinaigrette and green chile goat cheese, and sous vide Berkshire pork tenderloin with Pueblo red peppers, fingerling potatoes and succotash.
Not only will visitors have the opportunity to taste unique recipes from some of Pueblo's top chefs, but they'll also have the chance to see innovative cooking methods and learn why the transition to electric kitchens is a smarter, safer way to cook.
The advantages of cooking with electricity are:
-
Electric stoves do not pollute: Gas ranges burn methane (natural gas) which releases pollutants that can harm your lungs and cause asthma. Electric ranges have no emissions.
-
Electric ranges are more efficient: Gas ranges operate at 32% energy efficiency, while traditional electric stoves operate at 75% to 80% efficiency. Induction stoves achieve approximately 85% energy efficiency.
-
Save on your energy bills: Electricity is cheaper than natural gas, so running your appliances will reduce your utility bills.
-
Safer for your kitchen staff: The absence of open flames and the excess heat they radiate reduces the risk of cooks and other kitchen staff getting burned, dehydrated or overheated.
-
Generous incentives: With the passage of the IRA, the government has allocated billions of dollars to encourage the transition to electric equipment, and if you're looking to install a new oven or upgrade your existing one, it's cheaper than ever to buy an electric model.
The event is part of Electric Avenue, a public education event series hosted by Good Business Colorado that combines food, art, technology and social interaction. In addition to electric kitchen technology, Pueblo Plate-Up will showcase the latest electric cars, e-bikes and interactive displays from local utility and technology companies.
