Maybe, just maybe, there are times when you should actually focus on sports.
Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker has found great success in his chosen profession over the past few years. The seventh-round pick out of Georgia Tech helped his team win three Super Bowls and entered the 2023 season with a career-high 94.3% from the field and an 11-ft. Recorded. 11th in the postseason.
Butker's legacy of tolerance is a little more complicated.
Mr. Butker recently gave the commencement address at Benedictine College, a liberal arts institution in Atchison, Kansas. This is the same university that once forced gay basketball player Jalen Messersmith to remove his rainbow flag from his dorm room window.
Butker seemed comfortable.
After making some inflammatory comments about the coronavirus and President Biden, Butker turned to what he considers the ultimate and rightful place for women: the kitchen.
“I think the most diabolical lies have been told by you, women. Some of you may go on to have successful careers in the world, but if I had to guess, all of you I think the majority of people are most excited about their marriage and the children they will bring into the world.
“My beautiful wife Isabelle will be the first to say that her life truly began when she began fulfilling her calling as a wife and mother. This is because I have a wife who is devoted to her calling.
“I am blessed with many talents that God has given me, but I owe all of my success to a girl I met in band class in middle school who converted to the faith, became my wife, and gave me all of my success. I accept one of the most important titles of all: Housewife.”
Butker then came to the dangers of what he calls “nice churches.”
“The world around us tells us that we should keep our beliefs to ourselves whenever they conflict with the tyranny of diversity, equity, and inclusion,” Butker said. Stated. “We are afraid to tell the truth, because unfortunately now the truth is in the minority.”
Next, we move on to Pride Month, which takes place in June.
“It's not pride like a mortal sin that dedicates an entire month to it, but true pride that is God-centered, working with the Holy Spirit to glorify God.”
Butker has every right to say whatever he wants in a speech like this, but he is rightly accused of getting away with it. Maybe he'll play this game as part of the team, like he said.
