World Central Kitchen aid workers Saifeddin Issam Ayad Abutaha, John Chapman, Jacob Flickinger, Zomi Francom, James Henderson, James Kirby, and Damian Sobol. was killed in an Israeli airstrike on April 1st. CNN's Chris Wallace condemned the death on “The Chris Wallace Show” Saturday morning. He said of his personal connection to the aid organization. His daughter previously worked as one of the organization's employees. “There has to be some way that Israel can fight this war without killing so many innocent people,” Wallace said.
Wallace began the clip by admitting that he wanted to give a personal opinion as part of the “Tell Me Why I'm Wrong” segment. He began like this. “For six months, we have witnessed the death of tens of thousands of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. The Wehrmacht is fighting back. For some, it is collateral damage of war. For others, it is a massacre that violates every rule of humanity.”
Mr. Wallace then introduced Jose Andres, founder of World Central Kitchen, who said, “Humanitarians and civilians should never pay for the consequences of war. Principle. At a point where this no longer appears to be a war on terror, but a war against humanity itself.”
“Let me be clear here,” Wallace added. “The deaths of seven aid workers are no less tragic than the deaths of thousands of innocent Palestinian men, women and children, but for me this is personal. We've known each other for years.''The screen then flashed pictures of several smiling aid workers.
“A world-renowned chef, he is on a mission to feed those in need as an act of love. Two years ago, my daughter Catherine fled to Poland with World Central Kitchen. We volunteered to feed Ukrainian refugees. She's the woman on the far right. And the man in the middle, Damien Sobol, who Catherine says was incredibly kind, was murdered this week. He is one of seven employees at World Central Kitchen.
“I'm not a military expert and I know that Hamas is hiding among the civilian population, but I know that Israel won this war without killing many innocent people, without killing people like Damian. There has to be some way that we can fight. At some point in the last six months, it became unacceptable to continue this war in this way.”
The group of aid workers consisted of three British nationals, an Australian, a Pole, a dual American and Canadian citizen, and a Palestinian. Saifeddin Issam Ayad Abutaha's family described the 25-year-old as a “dedicated young man who is passionate about helping Palestinians.” World Central Kitchen aid worker Dora Weekley said Australian Lalzaumi “Zomi” Francome “worked around the clock, gave everything, and believed in helping those less fortunate.” Ta.
President Joe Biden claimed in a statement Tuesday that Israel is “not doing enough to protect aid workers who are trying to deliver desperately needed aid to civilians.”
“The United States remains committed to providing humanitarian assistance to Palestinian civilians in the Gaza Strip through all available means,” Biden said. “I continue to urge Israel to do more to facilitate aid. And we urge an immediate ceasefire as part of the hostage deal.”
