Ali introduces us to her community. Her friends, her current crush Knack (Chris Lee) and his friends, the residents of the building, and her mother Jersey (Shoshana Bean). And just when she was at her lowest point, people who truly loved her appeared. She opens up to her mother and Ali begins an independent exploration in her music. Because after all, this is a love story. It's a story about finding love, falling in love, losing love, and putting water on the love we already have.
Now, this show features some of the most talented vocalists I've ever had. This alone deserves a Tony nomination for this musical, but the technique and skill of each individual vocalist is truly amazing. Shoshana Bean's thrilling voice is effectively and consistently showcased, paired with some of the smoothest vocals on the planet by Brandon Victor Dixon. It is a gift to the listening ear. Next up is Broadway legend Kesia Lewis. She displays truly incredible vocal control throughout her range, with some of the most beautiful tones I've ever heard. On top of that, she plays out an emotional journey you'll never forget. And this is all due to Marea's ability to connect with us as viewers of her and her story. From her uniquely beautiful voice to her true emotional experience, Maleah is a breakout star. Everyone in this cast is like that. Everyone who utters a single voice or hears a single note is full of talent. And that's without even mentioning the dancers in this show. Truly some of the best dancing I've seen on Broadway, and definitely one of the best choreographed performances I've ever seen. Camille A. Brown has just magic in her choreography and abilities. Her choreography was able to translate iconic songs into completely new iterations. While watching her choreography, she felt like she was hearing Alicia Keys' popular songs for the first time. Again, really deserves a Tony nomination.
With so much talent from the artistic team, design team, and cast, it's hard not to see this show. Hell's Kitchen: The New Musical It officially opens on April 20th at Broadway's Shubert Theater and has been nominated for several Tony Awards, including Best New Musical and Best Choreography.
