The first Biden/Trump debate can be explained by a story about Chinese police confiscating a 20-year-old grenade that an old man was using as a hammer.
Given the history of incumbent candidates' first debate failures, that would be about as close as it gets to declaring Trump the winner of the first debate. The problem is that the debate scheduled for September 7th may not take place after all.
Trump will forever remain a pathological liar and rapist/criminal.
In one of his most energetic and articulate moments, Biden responded to a question about his age: Donald Trump “He's three years younger and much less qualified.” That may be true, but Trump, who has been convicted of sexual assault, impeached twice and tried to overturn the last election he lost, has been forceful, agile and on message, even as he has lied countless times.
By contrast, when the camera cut to Biden, who often appeared to stare off into the distance with his mouth agape, his eyes unfocused, and a look of blank horror on his face, the contrast was striking. Many liberal-leaning voters watching this must have despaired at Biden's performance, fearing it would perpetuate the public opinion that Biden was simply too old for the presidency.
Probably so. Biden faltered in his responses to simple questions. He frequently struggled to remember words, lost his train of thought, and his voice often fainted into silence. Asked about abortion rights, an issue that polls show is Biden's biggest contrast with Trump and his best chance of winning the November election, Biden described his preferred abortion rights regime as one in which “you go to a doctor and they decide if you need help.” It's a vision that relegates women to petitions for help from men in power, rather than citizens endowed with the right to control their own bodies and lives.
Later, when Trump described Biden as a criminal, Biden defended his actions by not simply pointing out that Donald Trump is a convicted felon, but by emphasizing the simple and compelling core argument for his reelection: that Trump is a false criminal who would ban abortion and destroy our democratic system of government to further his own interests.

We'll know more if Trump is convicted. The DNC surely has a Plan B.
Fact check: Trump falsely claims 'everyone' wanted abortion reinstated in states
Former President Donald Trump has repeatedly said that “everyone” wants Roe v. Wade overturned and the power to set abortion policy returned to the states.
Facts first: Trump's claim is false: Poll after poll has found that most Americans — two-thirds or nearly two-thirds of respondents in several polls — wish Roe had been preserved.
for example, CNN Poll conducted by SSRS in April 2024 It turns out that 65% of adults disapprove of the Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe. A CNN poll conducted by SSRS in July 2022, the month after the ruling. Marquette Law School Poll, February 2024 It found that 67% of adults oppose a decision overturning Roe.
a NBC News Poll, June 2023 It turns out that 61% of registered voters oppose the decision to overturn Roe. Gallup Poll, May 2023 61% of adults said the decision was a bad one.
Many legal scholars also wanted to preserve Roe, Several people told CNN Trump made a similar argument, saying in April that “jurers on both sides of the aisle want, and in fact have called for, an end to Roe v. Wade.”
…
It is true that some pro-abortion rights legal scholars wish Roe had been written differently. Ruth Bader Ginsburg “There was something of a small industry of legal scholars,” Ziegler said. Rewriting Roe “Saying, 'Roe should have said this' is not saying Roe should have been overturned. Those are two very different things.”
