Comfort Kitchen, located in the heart of Dorchester, was recently named a semifinalist in New England's prestigious James Beard Award for Best New Restaurant.
This restaurant opened just over a year ago and is already one of the best restaurants in the city.
“It was a truly humbling experience for us. Winning so many awards and accolades in our first year…and unheard of for a new restaurant,” said Biplo Rai, the restaurant's managing partner. . boston public radio Tuesday.

At the heart of Comfort Kitchen's culinary philosophy is “providing global comfort food from the perspective of the African diaspora and how it is connected to maritime space trade – voluntary and involuntary.” “It's basically providing food that has been brought through immigration, regardless of the situation,” Kwar said.
Driven by cultural celebrations, the team has curated a menu that pays homage to the African diaspora. Both believe that obtaining a liquor license is a big factor in their success.
“Without a liquor license, we wouldn't be here today,” Lai said.
The restaurant attracts visitors from all over New England and even as far away as New York.
“It's really brought attention to Dorchester…and I don't think Dorchester is getting the shine it deserves,” Rye said. “Comfort Kitchen is part of this larger ecosystem. [is] It really brought light to Upham's Corner. ”
