TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Dramatic home security footage showed the shocking moment last month when a “curious puppy” accidentally turned on a stove, causing several boxes placed on it to quickly burst into flames.
Just after 4:40 a.m. on June 26, the Colorado Springs Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a stove fire at a home in the 1600 block of Rushmore Drive.

Emergency personnel arrived on the scene minutes later and found no fire inside the home, but investigators did find evidence of a fire.
According to the fire department, the homeowner was lucky enough to wake up when his Apple HomePod gave a “high temperature” warning. One of the owners quickly put out the fire before firefighters arrived. The man was taken to hospital with smoke inhalation.
After speaking with the homeowner and reviewing shocking security camera footage, CPFD determined that the homeowner's dog started the fire.
“We determined that the puppy's curiosity had led him to accidentally turn on the oven, which had some boxes on top of it,” the fire department wrote on Facebook.
No other injuries were reported.
“This is a good reminder to have working smoke detectors inside and outside bedrooms and on every floor of the home at all times, keep all flammable items away from stoves and ovens, and know the two exit points from each room in your home in the event of a fire,” CSFD said.
