A year after closing for interior and exterior renovations, Arley's Kitchen owners Jay and Anita Morrell are ready to unveil the south side landmark's new renovation.
To celebrate the grand opening and thank our patrons for their support, Early's Kitchen will be hosting a free community breakfast on Saturday, April 27th.
“We just decided to offer free breakfast as a thank you to the community and to all the people of Tallahassee,” Jay Morrell said in an interview with the Tallahassee Democrat.
Patrons of the restaurant, which has been open for more than 40 years at its South Monroe location, will return to what Jay Morrell describes as a “modernized” space with an upgraded design, including a bar, new logo and new menu items. He will be welcomed, but he hopes so. To reassure guests, “At the end of the day, we are still Arley's Kitchen.”
The renovation was commissioned to meet the Morrell family's vision to introduce dinner service and weekend brunch. Both plans are still in progress as we look to add more staff to the team. Open positions include bartenders, chefs, line cooks, waiters, hosts, cleaners, and more. If you are interested in the position, please email us at earleyskitchen@gmail.com.
Beginning Monday, April 29, Early's Kitchen will continue to serve its usual traditional soul food-style sandwiches, meats and breakfast specials until the Morrells feel the new additions to the team are “hitting the ground running.”
The Morrells also operate Early's at the Capitol, which includes a cafeteria on the lower level and a coffee shop on the 10th floor.
Jay Morrell listed several menu items he plans to introduce to dinner and weekend brunch service within the next 30 days.
Some of the menu items are “new takes on some of the traditional Southern dishes,” he said, referring to the newly installed wood-burning grill. These include Double Cowboy Pork Chop and Bourbon Glazed Salmon. Other menu items include Jamaican jerk wings and a twist on osso buco, a hearty, slow-braised dish that typically braises veal shanks in a wine and vegetable-based sauce, but he I plan to use oxtail instead of lamb.
“We just want to break out of the old mold and offer some different menu items,” the American Culinary Federation certified chef said.

Other items featured on Arley's menu are coffee beverages, from espresso to spirits-infused, and other cocktails. These seem to be in high demand in the capital to pair with the cherished breakfast item.
