NEW YORK (PIX11) — An 87-year-old great-grandmother said water has been leaking from the Wagner House kitchen for months. She didn't want to wait any longer because the staff came to repair the kitchen wall but left her work unfinished.
Gladys de Leon watches PIX11 News every day. She contacted her neighbor Frances Williams, 87, on her behalf. She said Williams is a warrior who fights for her neighbors and housing issues. De Leon said the tables have now turned. Mr. Williams needs help making repairs himself.
Williams couldn't wait to show PIX11 her kitchen problems. Her kitchen walls are covered in duct tape and plastic. Two weeks ago, NYCHA came to fix a recurring leak and gave us a slop sink. She really wants them to finish the job and get her kitchen back. Williams has no cabinets. Everything is in the middle of her living room.
Frances is a fashionista. Water leaked from a closet near the kitchen, ruining my favorite clothes.
PIX11 reached out to NYCHA about Williams' kitchen wall and its repair status. A spokesperson told PIX11:
“Today, NYCHA staff visited the apartment complex to make necessary repairs in preparation for the installation of new cabinets tomorrow. NYCHA encourages residents in need of assistance to contact our Customer Contact Center at 718-707-7771. We encourage you to call us or submit a work ticket through the MyNYCHA application.”
