Ella, a top brand of food for babies and children's Kitchen today announced a partnership with data and environmental impact platform Foodsteps, with the aim of halving the carbon intensity of its products by 2030.
To begin the new partnership, FoodSteps will conduct an independent lifecycle emissions assessment of the brand's entire product portfolio and supply chain across approximately 210 products.
Ella uses a methodology developed in partnership with the University of Cambridge, WWF and waste charity WRAP.'s Kitchen aims to use the resulting data in its decision-making process to reduce the environmental impact of raw material selection, recipe development, product design and packaging.
“What is the carbon impact of strawberries, bananas and carrots? And what are their emissions from the moment they are planted, transported to factories, packaged into products and on store shelves? ?” said Chris Jenkins, head of impact at Ella's Kitchen. “This is the level of detail that food companies like ours need if we are truly going to reduce our carbon footprint and protect the planet for future generations.”
Ella's Kitchen is the first children's food brand to set science-based targets, and has already reduced direct Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 100 percent and reduced Scope 3 value chain emissions by 28% by 2030. We are committed to reducing this by a percentage. 2018/2019 baseline.
Currently, about 75% of brands are'Carbon emissions come from raw materials and packaging.
“This platform will enable us to fully understand the carbon impact of every decision we make,” Jenkins added. “From recipe development to ingredient selection to packaging and processing choices, we can make data-driven decisions and consider how the impact of our products can be reduced, mitigated and minimized from the beginning. It will look like this.

The partnership is also a breath of fresh air for FoodSteps, which has worked with some of the UK's biggest food brands since 2019, including Pizza Express, Azzurri Group and Compass Group.
