No one was injured after a fire broke out in the kitchen of a Wendy's restaurant in Park City early Saturday morning, fire officials said.
Gurnee Fire Department and Park City Police Department were called to the Wendy's, 3101 Belvidere Road in Park City, for a report of an appliance fire around 1 a.m. Saturday.
A 911 caller reported smoke and sparks coming from a grill in the restaurant's kitchen, said Gurnee Fire Department Battalion Chief Bob Herraber.
Officers were first on scene and found flames visible from inside.
The incident was upgraded to a structure fire response and additional fire department units were sent to the scene, Hellaber said.
A fire extinguisher was used, but to no avail.
Firefighters arrived and reported finding moderate smoke inside the restaurant.
Firefighters saw fire coming from the kitchen grill, Hellabar said.
They started putting out the fire with hoses and it was quickly extinguished.
Firefighters remained at the scene for about an hour, Hellaber said. No injuries were reported.
Wendy's is temporarily closed until the kitchen is cleaned up. It may open after Saturday.
Hellabar said a fire suppression system was installed in the area where the fire broke out, but it did not work.
Hellabar said damage was minimal as the fire did not spread to the building itself.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the Gurnee Fire Department.
