Mary Hollenback of Venice, Florida, said she was stunned when the nearly 8-foot giant alligator confronted her in her kitchen, leading to a standoff before authorities arrived and took her away.
A Florida woman was horrified when she encountered a dangerous 7ft 11in alligator that pushed through her screen door before taking a casual break in her kitchen.
Shocked, Mary Hollenback took photos of the beast at her home in Venice. The photo was widely circulated as of Sunday, thanks to WINK Chief Meteorologist Matt Devitt, who posted the two photos on social media. Especially his His X post got him over 1 million views.
Photos show the creature taking over almost the entire hallway between the entryway and the kitchen. “This big guy from Venice broke through the front screen door and into the kitchen while she was in the living room,” he wrote.

Mary said she was watching TV in the living room when she suddenly heard a sound that sounded like someone was trying to break in through the front screen door. “I thought maybe someone who doesn't live here was trying to get into the house. Things like this happen a lot, so I thought maybe I was in the wrong house,” she said.
“So by the time I got up and went near the front door, the alligator was already inside,” the Florida woman said, adding that the door was magnetically closed. “He tried to push it through and the magnetic clasp broke. The door opened and he just walked in,” she said.
“I probably can't get any closer to the front door than you are right now. When I got closer and looked, I realized it wasn't a person trying to get in, it was an alligator,” she recalled. Ta. Mary said two realizations struck her at that moment. “One is, 'Oh my god, there's an alligator in my house.' And the second is, 'Oh my god, there's an alligator in my house. How do I get there?'” How to get rid of him? ”

Mary had the idea to call 911, but there was a nearly 8-foot alligator between her and the phone. The woman cautiously approached the alligator and ripped her cell phone off the counter. But her adrenaline was getting to her.
“At that point I was shaking so bad I didn't know who else to call. I don't think I could even look up a phone number,” she said. Two Sarasota County sheriff's deputies and three members of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission eventually arrived on the scene.

A deputy reportedly wrote Mary's distress call as a prank. “One deputy was really funny. When he saw the report, he said he didn't believe me until he went into the house and saw the crocodile,” Mary said.
“I have to say they were great. They were very calm, very cool, very professional. They just acted like alligators in the house…no big deal. The incident was solved.”
