Chicago (WBBM Newsradio) – Dom's Kitchen & Market and Foxtrot, high-end grocery chains that had a prominent presence in Chicago, suddenly closed.
All 33 Foxtrot stores and two Dom's locations in the Chicago, Texas, and Washington, D.C., areas will cease operations immediately.
Many customers learned the news from signs posted at several Foxtrot stores.
Parent company Outfox Hospitality said in a letter posted on its website that the decision was difficult but necessary.
“We have explored numerous avenues to continue our operations, but despite our good faith and exhaustive efforts, we have not found a viable option,” the company wrote.
The two brands, upscale convenience store Foxtrot and upscale grocer Dom's, both originated in Chicago, have merged within six months of each other.

“This decision was not made lightly. We understand the impact it will have on you, our loyal customers, and our dedicated team members.” the letter added.
“We know this news is shocking and we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. Thank you for your understanding during this difficult time.”
Outfox Hospitality announced today that, effective April 23, it will cease all delivery, store operations, store credit, and customer service operations.
