Dine with a Doc® on August 7: Senior Education Ministries, in partnership with Generations and Vincennes University, will host Dine with a Doc® on Wednesday, August 7, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Vincennes University's Beckes Student Union (1101 N. Second St, Vincennes). The program is open to the public and a free lunch will be provided. The August speaker will be Elizabeth Bauer from Good Samaritan Hospital, who will speak about wound care. This program provides an opportunity for peer fellowship while receiving valuable information from the medical community. Build a basket each month! July – Generations is collecting different items each month to make baskets at the end of the year. Each month we collect these items and store them for the holiday season, creating additional baskets as needed. Items collected in July: Kitchen Supplies. - GENERATIONS OFFERS VIRTUAL HEALTHY LIVING CLASSES IN SEPTEMBER: Generations will offer a free virtual 6-week course, “Living a Healthy Life,” every Tuesday from September 10 to October 15, 2024, from 11am-1pm CST/12pm-2pm EST. According to the National Council on Aging, approximately 80% of older adults have at least one chronic disease, and 68% have at least two chronic diseases. Many adults with conditions such as arthritis, asthma, diabetes, lung disease, heart disease, stroke, and osteoporosis struggle to find ways to manage their symptoms. This program will address the issues faced by individuals dealing with chronic illness. Some of the topics discussed over the course of the program are techniques to deal with issues such as frustration, fatigue, isolation, and lack of sleep, decision-making skills to successfully navigate medication use and treatment options. Exercises to maintain and improve strength, flexibility, and endurance, pacing activity and rest, nutritional deficiencies, and action plans.
