New York City is giving away 10,000 free tickets to New Yorkers who want to get an up-close look at Macy's Fourth of July fireworks display along the Hudson River, which is returning to the West Side for the first time in 11 years.
Mayor Eric Adams announced that New Yorkers can apply online starting at 10 a.m. Wednesday for up to two free tickets, which will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.
“While all New Yorkers are welcome to take part in the illuminating night sky at Macy's Independence Day Fireworks Display, we are working to ensure that 10,000 lucky New Yorkers have a front-row seat to the show,” Governor Adams said in a press release.
Ticketed viewing will take place at Pier 84 in Hell's Kitchen, home of the Manhattan Kayak Club, and Pier 45 on Christopher Street in the West Village.
The annual fireworks display will begin at 9:25pm, and lucky winners of golden tickets will be admitted to a designated pier from 7pm to 9pm.
It's not yet clear whether other locations in Hell's Kitchen, such as Pier 76, will be open to the public or privately reserved, but the West Side Highway will be closed to traffic from mid-afternoon onwards and open to the public for anyone who isn't able to get a ticket.
Public entrances are as follows:
Christopher Street and Washington Street
W11th Street and Washington Avenue
W 12th Street and Washington Street
West 29th Street and 11th Avenue
W 40th Street and 11th Avenue
The ADA accessible entrance is located at W 41st Avenue and Christopher Street.
Noreen Doyle, president and CEO of the Hudson River Park Trust, said in a statement that the city “went all out” this year to make the exhibit safe and accessible to New Yorkers.
“I appreciate the hard work of Mayor Adams and his team in supporting this celebration, as well as the careful planning of the NYPD, Fire Department and many other agencies, and I look forward to celebrating with thousands of you on the Fourth of July,” she said.
The fireworks display will be streamed on NBC and Peacock starting at 8 p.m.
